Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurates e-classrooms supported by ONGC

Reaffirming its deep rooted commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Digital Transformation initiatives, ONGC assisted Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) in setting up e-classrooms across the country. As a part of the program, nine Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) in Odisha will now have access to state-of-the-art infrastructure for Digital Learning. The initiative is expected to benefit over 12,300 students.


On 14 September, e-classrooms were formally inaugurated by Union Minister, Petroleum and Natural Gas Mr Dharmendra Pradhan at Bhubaneswar. Bhubaneswar MP Ms Aparajita Sarangi, Rajya Sabha MP Mr Ashwini Vaishnav, Leader of Opposition-Odisha Legislative Assembly Mr Pradipta Kumar Nayak, Jatani MLA Mr Suresh Kumar Routray, GGM-Basin Manager MBA Basin Mr K R Durga Prasad and Deputy Commissioner-KVS Ms Indu Kaushik were also present among other senior dignitaries.


While addressing the gathering, Mr Dharmendra Pradhan exhorted students to take advantage of the smart classes and excel in their academic career. He also congratulated ONGC for completing the project in record time.

 Deputy Commissioner-KVS Ms Indu Kaushik briefed the audience about the details of the project. She also appreciated the role of ONGC in supporting the cause.

A team comprising of CGM (MM) - CSR Mr D K Singh, I/C CSR MBA Basin Mr S Sengupta, Officiating Head-Bhubaneswar Office Dr P K Das, GM (Chem.) Ch. B. Misra and Senior HRE Mr S Mohapatra also attended the program.

A dip into figures

ONGC Corporate CSR has helped in setting up 384 e-classrooms in 23 Kendriya Vidyalayas across India. Out of these, 184 e-classrooms have been setup in nine KVs in Odisha. The other 200 e-classrooms have been set up in 14 ONGC supported KVs across various work centers of ONGC. The total financial support from ONGC has been Rs 8,33,66,400.

Project Details

The project included procurement, delivery, installation and commissioning of Projectors, Web Streaming Devices and iPads. The procurement was done by KVS through e-bidding process on Government e-Marketplace portal.

KVS will also design the course content based on CBSE / NCERT syllabus. This project is expected to benefit 27,746 students from 23 KVs across India. The noble initiative of providing a digital learning environment to students, wherein they can quickly and easily understand concepts through the Audio-Visual medium, was appreciated by one and all.

While proposing the Vote of Thanks, Mr K R Durga Prasad thanked the Union Minister for his visionary leadership and guidance, not only in the efforts to make our nation energy-sufficient but also in the field of CSR.

He stated “Under the Minister’s guidance, ONGC has earned first position amongst all PSUs and overall second position in India in terms of CSR spending. It was indeed a great honor for the ONGC Board and the entire ONGC Family to be associated with the noble initiative.”

He further thanked ONGC Board for extending full support to the landmark initiative. He recalled how the project required detailed planning, bird’s eye view monitoring and immaculate implementation; and how the sustained efforts has finally borne fruit. He also thanked KVS for the effective implementation of the Smart Classrooms project across India.

Message of Honble Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas on Single Use Plastic


On India's 73rd Independence day celebrated on 15th August 2019, Our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi made on an appeal to all citizens to do away with the use of single used plastic in the country and replace it by sustainable alternative options such as jute / cloth bag / steel bottles etc. Our small steps in this direction can bring significant change in the health and environment of the country.

To make India free of single use plastics, a massive public campaign has been launched by Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas Ministry of Steel, engaging all stakeholders in the petroleum and steel sector for phasing out "Single Use Plastics".

I request each one of you for leading this Jan Andolan in phasing out the single use plastics. I appeal to all citizens and the stakeholders of MoPNG and Ministry of Steel, right from employees to vendors, suppliers, Retail Outlet dealers, LPG Distributors, Steel manufacturers to ultimate consumers to join this campaign and spread the message of avoiding use of single use plastics and move over to more sustainable and environment friendly alternatives such as jute / textile bags, clay pots etc.

Let us be the part of this Jan Andolan by taking our small steps which will make our country clean and green.

ONGCian Shuttler Sourabh Verma Bags Vietnam Open Title

ONGCian Sourabh Verma, Human Resource Executive, registered a thrilling three-game win over China's Sun Fei Xiang, to claim the men's singles title at the Vietnam Open BWF Tour Super 100 badminton tournament.

The second-seeded Indian held his nerves to seal the final game 21-14 and clinch the title. (Score: 21-12, 17-21, 21-14).


He beat three Japanese shuttlers – Kodai Naraoka, Yu Igarashi and Minoru Koga – on way to his title win.

It was a third career meeting between Sourabh and Sun. The duo has faced off twice this year at Canada and Hyderabad with Sourabh Verma coming up trumps on both the occasions.

ONGC Athletes Shine at 59th Inter State Senior National Athletics Championship 2019


ONGC athletes earned laurels for the company by securing three medals – including two Gold and one Silver – at the 59th Inter State Senior National Athletics Championship held at Lucknow, held from 27 – 30 August 2019.

Mr Siddhanth Thingalya, who specialises in 110 meters-hurdles, bagged the Gold Medal, with a new meet record in his event, with the timing of 13.65 seconds. Siddhanth joined ONGC on 27 April 2012. He is also the current National Champion and National Record holder in hurdles.

Mr Arpinder Singh, a star Indian triple jumper, won the Gold Medal in Triple jump event.  Arpinder, who is also the Asian games Champion in this event, jumped the distance of 16.83 meters.  Arpinder joined ONGC in 2012 and has been performing exceptionally well since his recruitment.

The third medal came from Mr Kirpal Singh, who bagged the Silver Medal in Discuss Throw. He was first among the Indians, as the gold went to Iranian Discus thrower.  In these championships five countries were invited to participate. These were also one of the qualifiers for World Championships, which are going to be held in Doha, Qatar from 27 September to 6 October, 2019.

ONGCians Conferred with Arjuna Awards : Triple Celebration on National Sports Day

President of India Mr Ram Nath Kovind conferred annual Arjuna Awards to three ONGCians – Harmeet Desai, B Sai Praneeth and Swapna Barman.

The Selection Committee for Sports Awards 2019 had nominated the winners earlier this month. The awards are given on the occasion of National Sports Day (29 August), to mark the birth anniversary of hockey Wizard and legend Late Major Dhyanchand.

President of India on Thursday conferred annual Arjuna Awards to 19 athletes and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awards in a magnificent ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.

It was indeed a proud moment for ONGC family as our budding sports persons received recognition and award for their hard work and achievements in the field of sports.


The function Fit India Movement was inaugurated by Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi during the National Sports Day on 29 August 2019.

The ONGC sports icons are the role models for the youth of India and the driving force for the youngsters to take sports in our country to the next level.


After the award ceremony para athlete Ms. Deepa Malik had a brief interaction with Head Sports. Ms. Malik applauded the efforts and the support she got from ONGC in her initial days of sports career.
